Three Amazing Apps or Websites (Third Series)

This is a continuing series called “Three Amazing Apps or Websites” which I will post for your review on an ongoing basis. Many of these I learned about at the ABA TechShow this year. I highly recommend it if you have not already experienced all that it offers.

First, I will check them out to see if I believe they have merit. I am not getting fees or other promotional consideration for any of these and I cannot guarantee that they will work with your current platform but I will often give you URL’s to follow for reviews and more detailed information. Please comment below if you find them useful or if they don’t work as advertised.  Enjoy!

1. Mohiomap http://techcrunch.com/2014/08/03/mohiomap/

You probably have heard of “mind-mapping”. It is a process of mental organization and collaboration with others in a way that the process can be visualized. This is useful by your self or with colleagues. This application allows you to use Evernote, Google Drive and Dropbox saved materials and organize them seamlessly and in ways you would find hard to do without this application. Check out the YouTube video below.

2. The Punctuation Guide  http://www.thepunctuationguide.com/

For those of you who can’t remember the rules for punctuation, this is a clear and easy to follow explanation of each of those rules. It also lists the “Top Ten Tips.” (Notice, I put the period inside of the quotation marks?)

3. DuckDuckGo    https://duckduckgo.com/about

Visit this site and under “Real Privacy” and “Our Policy” you will find this explanation why this search engine might be useful to you or your clients.

At other search engines, when you do a search and then click on a link, your search terms are sent to that site you clicked on (in the HTTP referrer header). We call this sharing of personal information “search leakage.”

For example, when you search for something private, you are sharing that private search not only with your search engine, but also with all the sites that you clicked on (for that search).

In addition, when you visit any site, your computer automatically sends information about it to that site (including your User agent and IP address). This information can often be used to identify you directly.

So when you do that private search, not only can those other sites know your search terms, but they can also know that you searched it. It is this combination of available information about you that raises privacy concerns.

Go to wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DuckDuckGo for even more detailed information.

Let me know how these work for you.

  1. Hi there, I think your website could be having internet browser compatibility problems.

When I take a look at your blog in Safari,
it looks fine however, if opening in Internet Explorer,
it’s got some overlapping issues. I simply wanted to give you a quick heads up!
    Apart from that, wonderful site!
